Eye Liner In The 1920'S
aAs fashion and make up trends constantly develop, we can notice how the evolution of the definition of glamour and beauty take place in a given time frame.
For example, at present, eye liners are attractive when applied subtlety, even only used to fill in the blank spaces between the eyelashes to make it more solid yet refined. But years ago, back in the 1920’s it was a totally different story.
When eye liners were in questions, they did not scrimp. They applied liberally, even using black grease to cover more area. It was like that because in that era, everything Egyptian was novelty.
Tutankhamen’s tomb was discovered during this decade so the interest in the Egyptian culture arose.
And with Cleopatra as the epitome of beauty, who can resist? Some even plucked all their eye brows out to be able to pencil in ones with higher arches that sloped downwards.
And maybe it was also the release of pent up make up aggression that had caused this extravagant display of cosmetic use. Because years prior to this eye liner explosion, only subdued colors of make up were even seen proper to be used by young women.
At least in our generation today, we have the best of both worlds, whether we want to recreate the elaborate past or stick to the restrained present.
